What does it mean to watch?
To observe in silence? To scroll past headlines?
Or does it mean to witness — and respond?

On a thought-provoking Saturday evening, Uncubate CoWorking turned into more than just a work hub. It became a space for reflection, conversation, and courage. In collaboration with Unmuted India, we hosted a community screening of the powerful and award-winning documentary #WhileWeWatched by acclaimed filmmaker Vinay Shukla.

A Documentary That Hits Close to Home

While We Watched is not just a documentary — it’s a mirror.
A mirror to the state of journalism in India, and a lens through which we examine the slow erosion of truth in our media ecosystem. The film follows the life of a senior journalist as he fights to preserve facts in an environment clouded by noise, hate, and increasing censorship.

It stirred something within each of us — discomfort, empathy, and urgency. As the scenes unfolded, there was silence in the room, not out of apathy, but from deep contemplation. Every face lit by the glow of the projector bore questions:

  • Are we listening enough?

  • Are we aware of what’s at stake?

  • What is our role in preserving the truth?

Post-Screening: A Conversation That Mattered

Following the screening, we were honored to welcome two young and passionate journalists from Ahmedabad, Tushar Basiya and Sagar Patel, the minds behind the emerging digital news platform Svaman. Their raw honesty about the challenges of starting a truth-telling platform in today’s polarised media climate sparked a much-needed dialogue.

They shared:

  • The struggles of independent journalism.

  • How they’re building a voice that stays unfiltered and grounded.

  • The cost of integrity — emotionally, socially, and sometimes financially.

Their courage resonated with the room — especially with the younger audience, many of whom had never been in such a direct conversation with journalists before.

Community, Consciousness & Connection

The best part? The audience wasn’t just passive — they were participants. From college students to working professionals, everyone had something to say.
We discussed:

  • Media bias.

  • The role of digital platforms.

  • Our individual responsibilities as consumers of news.

  • And most importantly, how to stay awake in an era designed to numb.

It was an evening of learning, unlearning, and opening our eyes — together.

 Final Thoughts

While We Watched showed us how fragile journalism can be — and how vital.
But this evening reminded us that there’s still hope, still voices, still people who care.

To everyone who joined us — thank you for being part of a night that mattered.

If you're someone who believes in truth, storytelling, and fearless community — come, be part of more evenings like these at Uncubate.

Let’s watch. Let’s question. Let’s act.
